Yesterday I heard the sad news of Brett's passing, it was such a shock! Brett was a part of my youth back in the 80s. We met through a mutual friend, and enjoyed non stop fun and laughter all the way. I have fond memories of us going to Madonna's first UK tour Who's That Girl and trips to London on the train, as well as a great party at my parents house. They were amazing, fun times which I will never forget. We lost touch as the years went by, but there were the odd times we would bump into each other in town and it was as if we had never been apart. Hopefully this will be printed - it was such a shock to hear of Brett's passing today, my sister Michelle informed me. We both knew Brett back in the 1980's when they were all students and I was the big sister but we all got on famously, me, my sister, Brett, Jason, Kevin, Kirk, Wayne and others too numerous to mention. Brett was friends with Kevin and got to know Michelle and myself via that way. We frequented the infamous Helsinki Bar near the Centre Hotel (can't remember the street name) and we dressed punk/alternative and enjoyed the music, the atmosphere and drink of that establishment. Brett was fun, funny as and very witty along with Kevin and always kind and gentle. I fondly remember him and those great times. He once made a comment about my legs back then as I got out of a taxi all dressed to the nines..'Oh Sue look at them sexy legs' lol...still remember it and laugh. We had really good times and he will be sadly missed by all of his friends back then. Rest in Peace now Brett, condolences to your family and friends etc and you were FABULOUS DARLING. Can't believe this news, Brett taught me everything I know about photography back in 2015. Such sadness to hear that he has passed, he was always so helpful and caring. All my thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

Today, I received the heartbreaking news that my photography teacher, Brett, had gone away. I'm in complete disbelief! Without you, Brett, I would not know anything I know about photography now, nor would I have had so many possibilities with you. So, i really want you to know that u have been my guidance and the best teacher for helping me towards discovering what I enjoy doing, but also for all the laughs and memories we shared! Brett, I'm sorry your life was taken away from u because you deserved to see much more and to be the happiest. Today I heard some very sad news that my photography teacher Brett has sadly passed away. Im actually In so much shock! If it wasn’t for you Brett I wouldn’t know everything I do today about photography and I wouldn’t have gained so many opportunities or even created my business without you. So I want to say thank you for not only being my teacher and guidance with helping me find what I love doing, but thank you for all the laughs and memories we created too! Going to all those London fashion weeks & I definitely won’t forget the memories we had in Rome!😂🎬. You were one of the teachers that believed in me and made so many of my dreams come true. All that hard work in the studio, you helped me pass my A Levels, I gained a business and have enjoyed so many events I’ve photographed and that’s all down to you. I’m sorry your life was cut short Brett because you really did deserve to experience the whole world and more. Rest in peace Brett, your work will be shown to everyone I’m sure & people will see you for the most talented photographer and genuine artist I know❤️.

We never thought that we would have to post this sad news. Sadly we lost a treasured family member. A Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Nephew and Friend to many around the world. Brett Heathcote was a charming, well loved man. You have left a hole in our hearts. You battled courageously right to end and we are so proud of that. You will encourage others in your footsteps through your passion for art, teaching and talent. Your photography will live on eternally and inspire others throughout time. You were my best of friends, My confidant, The wiper of my tears & the instigator of my smile. My inspiration in life, photography & kindness. We shared Margaritas, endless coffees & always put the world to right. But now the world has lost one of its brightest lights & biggest hearts. I loved you dearly Brett & I will never forget you, I’ll carry you in my heart forever.

Brett was my teacher, then my colleague teaching with him for 10 years at Gateway and a beloved friend. I loved the way he saw and captured 📸 the world. I can’t put into any words how he inspired me and how he was the heart and soul. His students just love him. He will be deeply missed, he leaves so much of himself behind in the department at Gateway and in all those he taught. With all my love to his family my thoughts are with you all xxx xxx
